Six fan zones set up for Harambee Stars’ CHAN showdown with Zambia
The move comes after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) slashed the stadium’s capacity by 40 per cent to 27,000 over security concerns.
The government has announced six official fan zones across Nairobi ahead of Harambee Stars’ final Group A match at the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) against Zambia this Sunday, August 17.
The decision follows a directive from Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya to the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) to provide designated spaces for fans without tickets, aimed at easing congestion at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

The move comes after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) slashed the stadium’s capacity by 40 per cent to 27,000 over security concerns.
“I have directed FKF to establish CHAN 2024 fanzones across Nairobi to help ease congestion at Kasarani Stadium during the Harambee Stars match. Details on the specific fanzone locations will be shared in due course,” Mvurya said earlier in the day.
Later, the CS confirmed that the zones had been finalised following a meeting with security stakeholders, including Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja in Nairobi, saying they were specifically placed in strategic neighbourhoods within Nairobi to give fans a near-similar experience to that of being inside the stadium.
The six fan zones will be located at Uhuru Park, Lucky Summer (Ngomongo area, behind Kasarani Stadium), Dandora Stadium, Utalii (Stima Club), Jacaranda Grounds, and Kibera DC Grounds.
The clash against Zambia will determine whether Kenya tops Group A, finishes second, or risks elimination, with a win crucial despite the Harambee Stars currently leading with seven points.
